I did an extra 20m bound as they are coming up in later parts of SPP. Nice to see that blocks are likely faster than 3 point start, by what looks to be 0.05 seconds. Reassuring whenever I look at my 60m times from 3 point start. I’m really excited at the prospect of getting immediate feedback from top speed sprinting, doing a flying run and focusing on a certain cue then seeing exactly how fast it was will help so much. I’m also happy to see the back of the high volume lower body work!

I probably had the final rep of bench press but wasn’t in the mood to push it.
Really happy to complete this first 8 week block unscathed, barely missing an exercise. My only concern for the next six weeks is how much the cold weather is going to disrupt my training. Last winter my times were slower when it was 7 degrees or colder, I now have thermal long lycra which should allow me to keep going. The only issue then becomes snow, which would mean moving to an exercise bike protocol.

This session was too long at almost 3 hours. The second acceleration run was meant to be a sled and I bought a mini running parachute online which was woefully inadequate. I timed my 20m at 3.33 secs, roughly what I can do unaided. It may be a whole different story with a headwind but today was very still.
I really went for it in the weights session, only one more week of RLESS and then the focus moves to back squats. I’ve been putting away 4000 kcal on Saturdays as it’s a huge session.

My legs are heavy from weights and a bit achey, no surprises in the 30m runs and a bit of a headwind. The 60’s were consistent, it would be 8.20 including reaction but I know from my 30m time that I’m only running about 1.2 secs per 10m at the intensity limit so 8 flat is spot on. Next week it moves to 25m IL and I’d hope to instantly drop a tenth over 60m.

Reasonably good week, pleased to use the Freelap timing system more frequently. I’ve run myself into the ground in the weight room and need to get through SPP 2 before the volume really backs off. I feel confident that I’m in a better place than last year and I just need to trust the process and let the times come.

Too boggy so I went round the track. It was much nicer but for my calves the soft ground is supposedly better so it’ll have to remain an occasional treat. Good to do some 200’s as well.

I only had two runs where both freelap and hand timing recorded correctly and both hand times were exactly 0.15 secs slower than Freelap – nice to have a conversion from last year’s times. I got down to 4.40 there so I’d want under 4.25 freelap. At the very least I have a time on the board which I can look to better each week.
Lacked intensity in the gym, didn’t push the RLESS like I should have but RDL was spot on.

I much prefer track tempo and it’s in trainers so the impact isn’t ridiculous. Great session and done in 55 minutes.
I fell asleep early and forgot to use the massage gun on my calves. Really need to stay on top of my calf muscles as they’re a weak point.

Nice to push myself to the point where I can’t complete all reps.
Another great week, calculating my squat 1RM I hit 130kg this week and only managed 124kg all of last year. I’ve put much more focus on squats in this winter block so I’m expecting some decent numbers come January.
I feel in a great place going into SPP, week 3 is where it gets really intense so there’s still a few weeks of higher volume weight training.

Chucking it down with rain and a bit of a headwind. Didn’t stop me from using my Freelap and loving every rep. I was slightly slower to 10m than previous weeks, around 1.92-1.94, with ~1.28 secs from 10-20m it brought my total time to around 3.2 seconds. I have no real comparison, the main times I tracked last season were 30m, where I was running around 4.45 secs. If you assume I can cover 20-30m in 1.10 secs I’d be at 4.3 secs, plus 0.20 for reaction time and first movement not actually being when I release the timing button, I’d be at 4.50. My 20-30m time may well be more like 1.15 secs, we’ll have to see this time next week when I do my first 30’s of the year.

Bumper session here, usually it’s only bench press but I had an office day on the 1st Nov so had to push the session a day. Also met by Storm Ciaran, which only affected the tempo runs and not the 10m sprints. I didn’t take my Freelap so no times but I’m not that fussed about 10 metres. There was a very strong wind on the bench which meant a 17 second 100m on one rep. This season the focus is on not cutting out prescribed exercises without a good reason but I fell short today and had no enthusiasm for the final core circuit.
This Saturday will be 30m runs, I’ll be timing them regardless but would like a day when it isn’t wind and rain. I feel so much more physically prepared this season and I’m really excited about setting a 30m baseline which I will improve as the weeks go on. My expectation is something around 4.30 seconds, which if you add in reaction time and first movement would equate to 4.50 hand timed. The fastest I managed last winter was 4.40 hand timed but that wasn’t until the competition phase.

Great 10m runs, I emphasised my forward lean in the first few strides and that meant running consistent 1.85’s. I should have been braver with the back squat and tried sets of 10 as I still had something in the tank.

Tough week! I could do with a break, I’m starting to feel quite a lot of fatigue so will prioritise recovery measures. I believe it’s 20m track sprints on the 28th which will be very exciting for me using my new Freelap timing system.
